PROJECT: Crosslinx LRT Stations, Toronto

Crosslinx Transit Solutions is a design and construction consortium established to deliver and maintain the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) corridor. The consortium is comprised of four leading companies in transportation including ACS-Dragados, Aecon, EllisDon and SNC Lavalin. The project is the largest transit expansion in Canada with a multitude of new transit infrastructure projects.

Net Electric Limited is responsible for completing the Building Code Management System (BCMS) wiring for 6 of 18 stations for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. The BCMS will be at the heart of controlling the heaters, cooling plant, mechanical units, air handling and VRF systems.

Metrolinx is an agency of the Ontario government providing public transit options to the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. Over the last decade,  Metrolinx has continued to expand its network of transit options to accommodate the ever-growing demand for providing services such as GO Transit, UP Express, and Presto.

Net Electric Limited has been commissioned by Metrolinx to support the monitoring of the health of rail circuits.

Net Electric Limited was responsible for the system design, supply and installation of SCADA monitoring at 30 locations along the Metrolinx corridor.

The monitoring allows Metrolinx to proactively ensure the efficiency, safety and fluidity of its operations.

PROJECT: Power Quality Metering – Interlocking Towers, Toronto

Toronto Terminals Railway (TTR) is the maintenance and operations Contractor to Metrolinx within the Union Station Railway Corridor (USRC). TTR directs the movement of train traffic through the USRC through their control towers which operate on a legacy switchboard system. Power to the towers is critical to safe and fluid railway operations.

Net Electric was commissioned by TTR to install Power Quality meters to monitor utility power feeding the towers.

Net Electric Limited was responsible for the supply, install, and testing of a remotely accessible power quality monitoring system. The work was performed for the Cherry, Scott, and John street towers.

This system connects to the larger SCADA network designed and installed by Net Electric.

PROJECT: Don Yard Communications Building, Toronto

The Regional Express Rail (RER) project along GO Transit rail corridor is aimed at fast-tracking service expansions. Under the RER there are over 200 projects worth $16 billion that will update GO Transit infrastructure. One of those projects involved the construction of the new Don Yard Communications Building.

The project was part of the plans to improve the Union Station GO rail corridor to better manage congestion, increase service and support commuters within the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area (GTHA).

Net Electric Limited, in partnership with Matheson Constructors and Moon-Matz Ltd., was responsible for the supply and installation of the power systems, lighting fixtures, generators, underground ducting systems, and electrical panels for the new building.
Net Electric was also tasked with communication system installation.

PROJECT: Ajax GO Station Parking Structure

The Ajax GO Station is a train and bus terminal, connected to the GO transit system which is responsible for the annual transportation of over 55 million passengers over 10, 000 sq/km. Located on Westney Road, Ajax, Ontario, this project involves the construction of a new 1000 space multi-level parking structure with elevators, tunnel access to platforms, a new Kiss & Ride area and bicycle storage facilities. Connections to the existing platforms are included.

This project is a design-build project led by Kenaidan with MCW and Net Electric providing all electrical and telecommunications design input and installation.

Net Electric was responsible for the installation of the roof-top solar array, diesel generator, power distribution system, lighting system, generator system, network and telephony cabling, security and car counting systems, P.A. system and parking guidance system.

PROJECT: Union Station – Revitalization

The Revitalization of Union Station, a 900,000 sq ft project, involves the replacement, upgrade, relocation and construction of various elements throughout the facility. It’s a five-year project with five phases. The scope of work includes the excavation and underpinning of Union Station to construct a new retail concourse under the existing trackways and platforms in addition to the excavation of new pedestrian tunnels and the renovation of existing office and retail space.

Net Electric is working closely with Carillion Canada to overhaul the concourse and office areas throughout. The systems being installed include power distribution, lighting, paging, fire alarm, CCTV, network cabling, wireless access points, security and access control. Once complete, these areas will serve the public with ticketing, wayfinding and passenger assistance. Also included are new offices for Metrolinx, City of Toronto and Union Station employees complete with all amenities.

PROJECT: Mississauga Bus Rapid Transit Segment #1

The Mississauga MiWay Bus Rapid Transit will be a highly efficient east to west transit corridor and service to be constructed across Mississauga. The system will use dedicated roads and services to provide faster and easier through Mississauga and the GTA. This project is being cooperatively organized by Metrolinx, the Canadian Federal Government, and the City of Mississauga. It will service 18km across the city and connect to a 100km GTA.

The first segment of this project consists of three new bus terminals; Central Park, Dixie, and Tomken. Net Electric will be working closely with B. Gattardo Construction Ltd. to adhere to project specifications and guidelines and will be responsible for the following systems: lighting, distribution, fire alarm, communication cabling, mechanical power, street lighting and street signage.

PROJECT: Union Station – West Wing Fit-Up

Union Station is a major commuter railway station and the central intercity transportation facility in Toronto, located on Front Street West and occupying the south side of the block bounded by Bay Street and York Street in Downtown. Serving 200,000 passengers a day, it is the busiest passenger transportation facility in Canada. The building has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada. The newly renovated space will be the new home for METROLINX corporate and executive employees.

The West Wing space consists of five floors, some historically significant, with an overall area of approximately 100,000 square feet. Net Electric is working closely with Giffels Westpro Construction in this challenging environment to supply and install power distribution, lighting, network cabling, wireless access points, security and fire alarm systems. Once complete, this facility will be connected to the outside world via a dedicated single-mode fibreoptic pipeline nearly 1Km long.

PROJECT: Queenston Plaza Phase 2

The Queenston Plaza is one of the busiest US/Canadian border crossings. Located in Queenston Ontario, the plaza provides customs services for over 2, 500 commercial crossings per day.

Since 9/11, border crossings and procedures have changed. The NFBC commissioned a multi-stage redevelopment that would meet their new needs. The project consisted of over 60,000 sq/ft of office and inspection space, a new commercial and passenger bus inspection station, a new 10,000
sq/ft inspection warehouse and a 50,000 sq/ft overhead canopy area.

Net Electric coordinated alongside Aecon to install the fire alarm system, distribution system, communication cabling system, lighting system, CCTV and security conduit and wire system, mechanical power feeds and building automation system conduit and wire feeds.

PROJECT: Hamilton GO Centre

The Hamilton GO Centre is located at 36 Hunter St. E, Hamilton, Ontario. It is the main terminal in Hamilton for GO transit train and bus services. It also doubles as a private regional bus terminal for private intercity coach carriers.

Originally built in 1933 for the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway, it is the only example of Art Moderne Railway Station architecture in Ontario. The $16,000,000 project goal was to convert the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway station into a facility that would have the size and modern capabilities to consolidate the Hamilton Go Transit train and bus services into one complex.

Net Electric worked with Dagmar Construction and Go Transit to ensure the timely and proper installation of the power distribution system, motor control centers and control panels.

PROJECT: Whitby GO Station Parking Structure

The Whitby GO Station is a train and bus terminal, connected to the GO transit system which is responsible for the annual transportation of over 55 million passengers over 10, 000 sq/km. Located at 1350 Brock St. South, Whitby, Ontario, the facility has two platforms, two tracks and the capacity to hold over 3000 vehicles.

Metrolinx, looking to improve the customer experience and encourage more GO Transit patrons, expanded the southern lot into a new multilevel parking
structure able to accommodate an additional 1400 vehicles.

Net Electric secured the electrical contract for Kenaidan, and worked closely alongside one another to adhere to project specifications and timelines. Net Electric was responsible for the installation of the distribution system, lighting system, generator system, security system, P.A. system and parking guidance system.
